Whitechapel Gallery - What's On: New Online Events + Artist Open Call

Would you like the chance to exhibit your artwork at Whitechapel Gallery?

We're now accepting applications for The London Open 2021! Since 1932 the open submission exhibition has been a launchpad for leading contemporary artists in the early stages of their career.

This week we're also delighted to announce our new podcast series, Hear, Now. Each episode this autumn joins Whitechapel Gallery curators in dialogue with artists, collaborators and thinkers, about ongoing exhibitions and the stories behind them.

You can also now book tickets to Networked Curating, a free film screening and talk that teaches you more about curatorial practices.

Calling all artists!

Are you an artist or collective living and working in London aged 26 or over?

This is your opportunity to exhibit your work at Whitechapel Gallery in The London Open 2021, a triennial exhibition that showcases the vibrancy and diversity of the capital’s art scene.

Selected by an esteemed selection panel, artworks submitted for The London Open can be in any medium, including painting, sculpture, moving image, photography, drawing, performances and installations.

The COVID-19 pandemic has been yet another turning point in the history of the internet and our reliance upon it. Galleries and arts institutions are looking anew at how we might use technology for expanded curatorial methodologies.

This screening and discussion with the artists Christopher Kulendran Thomas and Annika Kuhlmann's film installation 'Being Human' (2019) launches a discussion into networked image and experimental modes of practice.

We are thrilled to share that we have received vital funding thanks to the government's generous Cultural Recovery Fund. This award recognises the significant role the Whitechapel Gallery plays in the cultural landscape of London, the UK and internationally. It will ensure that we can continue to engage with our vibrant communities of local residents, visitors, artists, members and partners.
