Transport for London - Weekend travel information

Banner - you must wear a face covering or face a fine
Across our network we’ve put new measures in place to keep everyone safe. Find out what safety measures you can expect to see when travelling, including hand sanitiser, our enhanced cleaning regime and face covering enforcement.

You must wear a face covering over your mouth and nose for your entire journey including inside stations and on platforms. Keep in mind, some customers might be wearing an exemption badge as they are not able to wear a face covering for reasons that may not always be visible. Unless you are exempt, you could be refused travel or face a £200 fine which doubles with every violation up to £6,400.

Buses and roads

We have introduced dedicated school travel only bus services across various routes during term time on weekdays from 07:30-09:30 and 14:30-16:30. These buses have clear signs to differentiate them from regular bus services and information is posted at bus stops and online

Please plan and allow more time for your journeys if you are travelling by bus during school travel times as you may have to wait longer. Please travel during quieter times where possible. Check to see if your route is affected or view a full list of bus routes affected.

Limited Night Bus services are running and due to the following works, some buses may be diverted or stop short of their normal destination. Make sure you check before you travel.

West End: High Holborn, between Shaftesbury Avenue and Museum Street, will become two-way for vehicles from Friday 9 October. This is part of the West End Project. Please be careful while people walking, people cycling, and other traffic gets used to the new two-way road layout. See here for more information.

Greenwich – Until October there will be a series of works, including lane closures and temporary signals on the A206 between Christchurch Way and Angerstein Roundabout, while we build a cycle lane. Delays are expected, if possible travel during our quiet times for a better journey.

Wandsworth Bridge – Until summer 2021 there will be a series of lane restrictions on Wandsworth Bridge whilst the borough carries out essential maintenance works. From Mid-November there will be one lane northbound over the bridge for all traffic including buses. A bus lane will be maintained in the southbound direction which will be wide enough to accommodate cyclists. Footways will be narrower on both sides for those walking across the bridge.

Hammersmith Bridge - Emergency closure. Following expert technical advice, Hammersmith & Fulham Council has taken the decision to close the bridge to all traffic – including people walking and cycling – until we can be assured it is safe. While, it’s already closed to general traffic and buses and has been for a while, it is now closed to people walking and cycling. Find out more.

Knightsbridge – Until early November there will be lane restrictions and temporary lights on the A4, Knightsbridge at the junctions with Sloane Street and Brompton Road. These are for essential works carried out by Cadent Gas to replace a main.

Vauxhall Bridge - Until late November 2020, Vauxhall Bridge will be closed to general traffic in both directions, this is due to safety critical repair works. Currently access will be maintained, in both directions, for people walking and cycling, and for southbound buses, coaches, and taxis. Buses and coaches northbound towards Victoria will be on diversion via Lambeth Bridge and Millbank. All other vehicles will be on diversion, and if using the signed diversion route will be exempt from the Congestion Charge and Ultra Low Emission Zone charges.

If your journey is through the area but not stopping locally, please consider re-routing. Chelsea Bridge, Lambeth Bridge and surrounding roads are also expected to be very busy. Find out more.

Delays are expected, please plan ahead and check before you travel, for the latest information please visit status updates.
