Dance the May Pole for free at Strawberry Hill Monday

May Day at Strawberry Hill

Maypole Mayhem!

Visit our 'little gothic' castle this Bank Holiday Monday and learn the traditional Maypole dance

The May Dance, which has been popular in Europe for centuries, was often considered a symbol of community in Britain. Have you always wanted to learn this traditional dance? Then drop by Strawberry Hill between 12.30 and 3pm on Monday 4th May where you and your family can finally learn to weave colourful ribbons in this spring dance for free.

With the perfect blend of tradition and fun, Maypole Mayhem is guaranteed to be energetically entertaining for the entire family. There is also opportunity to make a beautiful headdress and become a May Day King or Queen for the afternoon.

Both activities, the dance and the headdress craft, are suitable for all ages 3+ but children under 8 years must be accompanied by an adult at all times. The Maypole Dance is a free activity while the headdress activity is just £2.  No booking is required for either activity.

Maypole Mayhem will also prepare you and the family for Strawberry Hill's Festival of Fun on Sunday 31 May where you can dance the Maypole all over again!
