Strawberry Hill - What's On

Calling all Kings, Queens, knights and princesses! Join us for the Festival of Fun on Sunday 31st May

Summer at Strawberry is again kicking off the summer with  the Festival of Fun, this year with a new Medieval theme

Kindly sponsored by Morrisons Solicitors, this is the third year the Festival of Fun has been held at Strawberry Hill. At this exciting medieval themed day families can find out about the historic art of falconry with a spectacular display of birds of prey to be staged by the Hawk Eye Falconry team. Children can have a go at hobby horse jousting whilst dressed as a knight, complete with helmet, lance and shield.

This fun-filled day will also feature a Maypole. Children can learn the basics of this traditional dance with  workshops held throughout the day . In our willow grotto, storyteller Olivia Malaure will be entertaining children with fairytale stories. Children can also get crafty in our free taster activities and make shields, helmets, flower crowns and conical hats with flowing veils to transform themselves into knights and princesses.Other fun activities include a bouncy slide. For children interested in rugby, members of the London Scottish Community Team will help youngsters practice their rugby passes in the club’s inflatable speed cage.

Paul Harvey, Managing Partner, Morrisons Solicitors commented, "Morrisons Solicitors are delighted to once again be partnering with Strawberry Hill House for their Festival of Fun and Summer at Strawberry. Also this summer, we are honoured to host the impressive artwork of Laura Ford in Strawberry Hill's first exhibition of contemporary art, opening on Saturday 20th June

Ford has work in major collections around the world and her solo exhibition at Strawberry Hill  will showcase a series of new bronze sculptures called ‘Days of Judgement’.

In Ford’s postlapsarian vision, the characters of Adam and Eve are reconfigured as a group of very tall, skinny cats. Pacing through the grounds at Strawberry Hill in various states of deep thought, these cats appear like a group of existential poets gripped by their own inner anxieties. Inside the house, a number of new works have been carefully selected to suit the different interiors including some of Ford’s best known sculptures.

Lovers of contemporary sculpture have the opportunity to gain further insight into her work at a special talk given by Laura Ford and the curator of the exhibition and
Director of Roche Court Sculpture Park, Stephen Feeke. This conversation between sculptor and curator will discuss Ford's figurative work strongly references childhood with a melancholic, sometimes dark undertone.

The exhibition Laura Ford at Strawberry Hill, will run from 20 June - 31 October 2015, entry to this exhibition is free with a house admission ticket and is open as per house open hours.

Laura Ford in Conversation takes place shortly after the exhibition opens at 7.30pm on 23rd June. Advanced booking required,
book here. Tickets include a complimentary glass of Prosecco on arrival.
