London Zoo ZSL - Meet a New Arrival

Surprise baby born at ZSL London Zoo
When Tobi the tamandua moved to ZSL London Zoo last October to be a companion for resident female Rhia, we hoped to someday hear the pitter patter of tiny tamandua toes.

So we were overjoyed when just five months later a baby was spotted clinging to Rhia’s back, meaning she must have fallen pregnant the same week they met!

Rhia has kept the baby close since its birth, tucking the youngster away in a hollow log. But the two-month-old has started to tentatively venture away from mum to explore its Rainforest Life home, which the tamanduas share with two-toed sloths Marilyn, Leander and baby Lento.
